KEPS Band Program Outline
Why is the Band important?
The band at KEPS has developed over many years and is a great asset to the school. It first started in 1932. The Band program teaches participants a sense of teamwork, the need for commitment, music skills in their chosen instrument, music appreciation and an opportunity to perform for the school community and wider audiences. These skills and achievements will stay with participants long after they graduate from KEPS.
On being the Parent of a Music Student.
Numerous studies indicate that parental attitude, support and involvement are important factors in a child’s ability to successfully learn to participate in an ensemble and to enjoy making music. Like any skill, interest counts far more than talent. With the right support from parents and a supportive learning environment, being involved in a musical ensemble will become a natural part of your child’s life.
Benefits for learners and their families.
Music participation enhances: problem solving, teamwork, goal setting, self-expression, co-ordination, memory skills, self-esteem, confidence, concentration, and much, much more!!! A child’s study of music also offers opportunities for shared family experiences including: musical event attendance, family music making, performing for (and with) family and friends, learning about the lives of composers and the cultural heritage of the Western World, and a sense of pride and accomplishment for the entire family.
